Chopper's Just For Kids Page
The Place for Price Chopper Kids & Parents, Too!
Hi and welcome to my Just for Kids web site, home of our Kids Cooking Club! I'm Chopper, and I'm here to tell you about the great foods we have at Price Chopper, to play a few games, to color some cool pictures, to make some great recipes and best of all, to spend time with some of my friends. That's why I'd like you to meet one of my BEST friends, Jodie Fitz. |
Have Fun Cooking with Jodie
September has arrived and with it is the beginning of one of my favorite times of the year! Everything feels different as the colorful change of the leaves begins and with the crisp fall air starting to set, there's an excitement in the transformation. I'm not only enthusiastic about the changes the seasons bring to our environment, I'm also motivated about the different foods it brings to my kitchen. There are so many new and interesting ingredients that I can experiment with, cook and taste, ultimately sharing with you.
While September is definitely one of my favorite months, it's also the launch into a busy one with school about to begin and before you know it all of the activities will soon be back in full swing. Here at the Price Chopper Kids Cooking Club we're celebrating back to school. In fact, we've planned and prepared three new recipes to help make the transition easier, tastier and healthier.
This month I had the chance to meet up with Matthew, Ella and Christina in the kitchen to help unveil September's recipes. We blended (one of our favorite things to do at the Price Chopper Kids Cooking Club), we stirred, we spread, we cut and we baked. Ultimately we made a mess, but we had fun mixing up a few new recipes that offer breakfast, lunch and an after school snack for you to try.
Matthew helped me to kick things off by adding a variety of ingredients and colors into the blender and mixing up the Suns Up! Smoothie; a healthy way to start the day. Ella then joined me at the counter to create a very simple, but delicious tasting Peanutty Apple wrap to bring for lunch. If you have peanut allergies, no worries, we whipped up an alternative for everyone to taste and compare. Last, but definitely not least, Christina joined me to make Sweet Snackin' Pita Chips for an after school snack that helped us to squeeze in another serving of fruit and whole grains at the end of the day. Food is all about experimenting and trying new things until you find those 'thumbs up' recipes.
We hope you have fun trying the three new combinations of flavors in your kitchen. Next month we will be cooking up some more fall fun for you and your family as we'll be getting ready for Halloween. Stay tuned!
Happy back to school!

Note to Parents:
Simple recipes, like the ones we are sharing this month, can be the perfect start to launching the kids in your household into the kitchen while you can also ward off those other battle cries that sometimes accompany summer that sound something like; ÔI'm bored!' ÔThere's nothing to do!' If they're older you can leave them the directions and the ingredients; it can serve as a fun way to pass the afternoon hours with a friend or by themselves. And, if they're not quite old enough to cook by themselves, you can guide the process but letting them do most of the work with you supervising. If they're really young, then it's just fun to make an easy recipe with you; even if they just pour in one ingredient and then help with the taste testing. Whatever the age, there's something for everyone when it comes to cooking and sampling!
