The Place for Price Chopper Kids & Parents, Too!

Hi and welcome to my Just for Kids web site, home of our Kids Cooking Club! I'm Chopper, and I'm here to tell you about the great foods we have at Price Chopper, to play a few games, to color some cool pictures, to make some great recipes and best of all, to spend time with some of my friends. That's why I'd like you to meet one of my BEST friends, Jodie Fitz.

Have Fun Cooking with Jodie
Gobble! Gobble! Are you ready to cook? Thanksgiving is just around the corner so let's pull out our aprons, get ready to mess up the kitchen and try some new recipes fit for a feast. This month Ryan, Jessica and Hannah joined me in the kitchen to cook up some Thanksgiving Fun. Together we created Baked Apple Rings, Honey Apricot Cornbread with festive designs and Gobble Ups for dessert. We had fun putting these treats together and hope you enjoy sharing them with your family this season.

Thanksgiving reminds me of the first feast with Pilgrims and Native Americans coming together to celebrate. There is an extensive history with this holiday. Did You Know:

  • That the first Thanksgiving lasted for three days! Wow, that was some kind of feast ...
  • Although the first Thanksgiving took place in 1621 with the Pilgrims in Plymouth, it wasn't until 200 years later that Thanksgiving became a national holiday!
  • Before President Lincoln declared Thanksgiving to be held annually on a specific day that Presidents before him called a national Thanksgiving whenever it was necessary and that sometimes there could be more than one Thanksgiving celebration in a year.

If you like fun facts and a little investigative fun, see if you and your family can find three states that have a city named Turkey in it. Or, to share fun facts as part of your holiday fun, hide a Thanksgiving fact underneath everyone's Gobble Up Dessert for family members to share.

Remember, in our house hold, sometimes recipes get a 'thumbs up', sometimes they get a 'thumbs down', but our motto is ... you never know unless you try.

I'm looking forward to cooking with you next month as we get ready to stir up some more holiday fun in your kitchen! Happy Thanksgiving and gobble gobble! Note to Parents: Hi Kids! I'm Chopper's friend Jodie Fitz, and I'll show you how to make fun foods in our Kids Cooking Club. I love to experiment in the kitchen, and cooking is great for kids and parents too! If you join our Kids Cooking Club, you could be chosen to cook with me - at your local Price Chopper, at an event in your community or even on TV! Just tell me why you want to cook with me and you could be chosen.

Note to Parents:
'Tis the season of coughs, sneezes and the spread of germs, so this month, we are focusing on helping to spread the word about washing hands instead of spreading germs. Children are being reminded on television and in the classroom to wash their hands and it's just as important to remind them to take the time to wash their hands when they get home and before they cook. Also, take the time to remind your children about the importance of washing fresh fruits and vegetables before eating or cooking with them, as many hands may have touched these items in the produce section. The kitchen can be an educational tool on many levels for the little cooks in your family.
