Ensuring Your Seafood is Sustainably Sourced
For its variety, great taste and exceptional nutritive value, seafood is in high demand, but the ever-increasing appetite for these marine resources puts enormous pressure on our oceans. Globally, marine ecosystems are threatened by unsustainable fishing practices and widespread habitat destruction.
To do our part in driving industry change and in mitigating these factors, Price Chopper has joined forces with Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) and Trace Register to propel our sustainable seafood program to the highest level attainable.
To assist in the further development of Price Chopper's sustainable seafood strategy, which ensures that an ever-increasing percentage of the seafood that we sell is harvested from sustainably managed and maintained fisheries, Price Chopper has called upon the expertise of these two well-established organizations.

Highly sought for its mild white meat resembling Tilapia, the Sea Bream we sell at Price Chopper is from Local Ocean™, our local and sustainable source for this species.
SFP will guide us through a process of product evaluation and help us to determine the best sources of wild-caught and farmed seafood. Working actively with our supply chain and individual fisheries, Price Chopper is committed to improving harvesting policies and practices wherever they may be in decline or may be poorly managed.
Trace Register will provide us with a sophisticated software system which meets the full traceability requirements of producers, processors, distributors and retailers of wild-caught and farmed seafood. This will give Price Chopper the ability to trace every step of our seafood's the journey from ocean to shelf, providing you unparalleled assurance of quality and the overall sustainability of harvesting practices.
By joining forces with these highly regarded organizations, Price Chopper confirms its commitment to set the highest standard possible for sustainable seafood procurement to ensure the availability of safe, quality seafood well into the future. Our sustainable seafood program will provide reliable information about the seafood in our stores, while detailing the work that we do with SFP and Trace Register to improve fisheries and farms from which we procure our products.
As a supermarket industry leader with a deep and long standing commitment to social responsibility, our goal is to support the health and growth of marine and aquatic ecosystems that yield the safest and highest quality seafood available. Thank you for recognizing and supporting our commitment to protect our fragile global marine ecosystems and precious natural resources for this generation and for generations to come.
Our Sustainability Partners
Sustainable Fisheries Partnership
Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) was founded in 2006 as an independent non-governmental organization (NGO) capable of breaking new ground in the world of sustainable seafood and marine and freshwater conservation.
Its vision is one of healthy marine and aquatic ecosystems; secure seafood supplies; and a thriving, responsible seafood economy. Its mission is to engage and catalyze global seafood supply chains in rebuilding depleted fish stocks and reducing the environmental impacts of fishing and fish farming.
SFP is a non-profit organization exempt from US federal taxation under Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3).
Trace Register
Founded in 2005, Trace Register set standards by which consumers can feel confident that the seafood they purchase is from sustainable sources. After extensive research and development, the Trace Register™ system was introduced as a powerful yet pragmatic solution for food traceability.
