Keep Your Balance
With Produce at its Peak

by Lisa Fabian

produceJune is National Fruit and Vegetable Month, so welcome the summer months by eating plenty of fresh produce while it's abundant. Consuming lots of fruits and vegetables is an important part of any healthy diet. Phytochemicals found in plant foods can help reduce the risk of serious health issues like cancer, diabetes, and stroke. For the greatest benefit, try to fill two-thirds of your plate with veggies, fruit, whole grains, and beans, recommends the American Institute for Cancer Research. The remaining third can be a protein source, either plant or animal based. With such a bounty of produce available, eating your recommended five or more servings a day is easy, especially with these tasty recipes to get you started.
