Leading The Way to Wind Power
In August of 2005, Price Chopper became the first supermarket in New York State to invest in the NewWind Energy®, a clean, environmentally-friendly wind power option supplied by leading wind energy developer Community Energy, Inc. That wind energy purchase is equivalent to approximately half of a 1.5-megawatt wind turbine and covers 42 percent of the electrical power used at the two participating Saratoga stores - a percentage equal to the City's wind energy purchase for their municipal use. The wind is supplied directly to New York's electric grid, reducing the need for electricity generated from other sources. The resulting environmental impact is as positive as planting over 141,000 trees or not driving 1.8 million miles.
