A New Generation of Stores
At Price Chopper, we're building a new generation of stores using materials and processes that reduce waste and help us operate them at optimum efficiency. Some of the extraordinarily "smart" elements being explored include: Pre-cast concrete wall panels that can be ordered to exact specification, eliminating the production of waste steel and block pieces that require transport off-site; Colored concrete floors that can be cleaned with soap and water instead of traditional vinyl tile that requires regular chemical cleaning; Skylights; Increased auto-dimming lighting; LED lit reach-in doors for chilled and frozen products rather than conventional open cases; State-of the art energy management controls; and fuel cell supplement power from the grid. With assistance from our partners at NYSERDA, we are set to break ground shortly on our new Colonie store, which is poised to be the first gold level LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified supermarket in the state of New York.
