Actions Save Energy, Earn Distinction
Since 2001, Price Chopper has had a dedicated "energy team" whose efforts have helped cut energy consumption by reducing lighting and oven usage overnight, reducing neon signage, installing new lighting and fans, removing excess spotlights, installing motion sensor switches and more - all the while promoting energy awareness. The result: a drop in store energy use by more than 5 percent. That's a savings of nearly 5 million kWh of electricity and 500,000 therms of natural gas. Our partnerships with NYSERDA (NYS Energy Research & Development), Connecticut Energy Efficiency Fund, EnerNOC (MA) and Efficiency Vermont (to implement energy-efficient refrigeration and lighting, variable speed drives, cooler economizer cycles, lighting controls, expansion valves, and energyefficient HVAC) helped us to reduce our energy consumption by an additional 5 percent and achieve a designation of 'Superior Portfolio-Wide Energy Performance' from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and as a "Northeast Business Leader for Energy Efficiency" by Northeast Energy Efficiency Partnerships (NEEP).
