Recess Helps Kids Behave, Learn
If you're a kid denied recess at school, hear this: a study in the February issue of Pediatrics indicates kids who have recess behave better in class! Indeed, the study's author asserts, children learn as much about creativity, imagination and social interaction on breaks as they do in class. The study asked teachers to assess kids' behavior and note time spent at recess ... and kids with more recess behaved better in school. The conclusion: recess is recommended at least once a day for 20 minutes or more, including some physical activity.
