Child Development Smarts Lacking?
One in three parents with babies know little of child development, according to a study presented at the Pediatric Academic Society meeting in Honolulu, HI. The study's conclusion was even more suprising, says one researcer, because parents who participated had young children of their own. Parents were surveyed with 11 questions regarding child development, and researchers looked at what parents said about interacting with their children while reviewing videos of how parents taught their kids. A third of the parents - 98 percent of which were mothers - got four or more test answers wrong and were less likely, say researchers, to enjoy healthy interaction with their kids. For more information on child development, visit the Centers for Diseasse Control and Prevention web site.
