+ What type of
background do I need to qualify for the RMA? RMA teammates have varied backgrounds. We look for
individuals who have the "desired qualifications/experience" listed under this section.
+ What is it
like to be in the RMA Program? The RMA Program is very well respected in our company. RMA teammates are given
opportunities that typically other teammates on training might not have.
+ What does
the position entail? The position entails that you will be trained for a period of time as a Department
Manager (Level 1) and then actually functions in that position for a period of time. If successful
at Level 1, you then progress to the next phase of the program.
+ How long
will training be? The
training is approximately 20 months from start to completion.
+ Are there
classes or skills that I can take or work on to better my chances at being qualified for the RMA
program? Any type of
managerial experience or exposure could be beneficial to understand what is expected of today's
managers.
+ Who will
train me? We have
designated trainers throughout the six states that we operate in.
+ Does the RMA
Program offer continuous learning through classes and meetings? Absolutely, we have assigned courses and certifications
that have to be completed prior to graduating from the RMA program. We also encourage our teammates
to pursue their education and get graduate degrees.
+ Am I
required to have managerial experience in order to join the RMA program? This is not a requirement to get into the
RMA program. External applicants who do not have a 4 year degree are required to have a 2 year
degree along with 2 years of relevant business experience.

Approximately how much of my job will consist of traveling? This depends on where you are training. We try with the
best of our ability to accommodate this if possible. There are required meetings and training
sessions that are only offered in Schenectady, NY.
+ What are
the greatest benefits of being in the RMA? The advancement opportunities that the company offers is a
great benefit. We have many different facets to our organization that are looking for great
people.
+ Do I have
to be open to relocation if i want to join the RMA? This is a question that comes up quite a bit. We need to see what the organization's needs are when we are in the process of selecting candidates for RMA. We always look to see what and where this person could assist the company in achieving our goals.
+ What does
the acronym RMA stand for? RMA stands for the Retail Management Academy.
+ What is the
pay scale and time frame for the duration of the program? What would my position be listed
as? The pay scale
depends on a few things such as degree along with work experience.
+ Why should
I chose RMA over another company or position within Price Chopper? What are the benefits of
RMA? Price Chopper
has been a very succesful supermarket business for over 75 years. This position of RMA will be the
starting point for an individual to work with a very well established and respected leader in the
retail supermarket business. The opportunities in our organization are available to advancemnet if
the individual is willing to do what is expected to achieve them.
+ Where is
Price Chopper's operating area? Will I have to relocate? Will relocating influence my acceptance
into the program? This is based on the organizations needs for managers in our marketing areas. This
is stated to the individual before an offer is made as to whether the individual will have to
relocate.
+ If the
training specialists are in Schenectady, how do I know what I need to do from week to week? What/who
are my resources? Who is an RMA teammate's supervisor? This is explained in the week long orientation that anyone
accepted in the RMA program is required to attend. There are many resources that you are given to
use at the orientation. In the program, the individual is assigned an RMA buddy (someone in the
program at a higher level or someone who has graduated from the program) along with a mentor. The
training specialist responsible for the RMA program along with the supervisor and Manager of
Training is a resource. The RMA teammate's supervisor is the Store Manager who is responsible for
the training.
+ What are
the specifics regarding relocation? Relocation is based on the organization's needs for managers in any of our marketing areas that we are in.
+ Can I request to train with a specific person, a mentor that I may have had during my career? We have designated trainers that know the RMA Program. If there is a mentor that you would like, it ccan be discussed.
+ Who do I directly report to: Store Manager, department trainer or the training department?
A store manager is the one who is directly responsible to make sure you are learning the information you need. The Department Manager is also responsible to train you on the information that you will be held accountable for in that position. The training department is a resource that assists you in your development as a Co-Manager.
+ How
accelerated is the program? What is the usual progression for working up the ranks in the
traditional scheme as compared to RMA?
RMA program is a 20 month accelerated program. The usual progression for a traditional versus an RMA teammate is faster at achieving your goal. However this does not mean that the traditional teammate can not achieve their goals.
